Policy In Action

Design support programmes are one of the ways of putting policy into action and responding to the policymakers call for businesses and public services to innovate and change. For the taxpayer, new projects coming to market generate significant economic impact, and participating businesses are left with a legacy of continuing innovation and creative management processes.

Meeting of Minds : Tallinn, Estonia

On December 6th & 7th, we’ll be facilitating a workshop with delegates from more than ten countries in Tallinn to explore the future of design support programmes. On the first day six countries, including the UK, New Zealand, Ireland and Brazil are presenting their work in this field and the group will debate emerging best practice. The second day will be a working session to develop an approach for a new programme using Estonia as a case example.

When practitioners get together, the focus has been on ‘case studies’, what’s gone well, rather than sharing the detail of developing practice with a healthy dose of constructive criticism. This has meant that the emphasis on design has been weighted towards the visual rather than the economic or social impact of a programme. The workshop in Tallinn is the first time that an international group of practitioners will compare their work to the brief ‘What would you change or do differently?’. The ambition is that the workshop will be the catalyst for greater collaboration in the future.
