Policy In Action

Design support programmes are one of the ways of putting policy into action and responding to the policymakers call for businesses and public services to innovate and change. For the taxpayer, new projects coming to market generate significant economic impact, and participating businesses are left with a legacy of continuing innovation and creative management processes.

The SEE project has launched a special publication entitled Building Next Generation Design Support Programmes: Putting policy into action. SEE is a network of eleven European partners working to lobby our national and regional governments to assimilate design and creativity into public policy. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the INTERREG IVC programme.

The publication is a summary of the inaugural Business Support Canvas workshop in Estonia where the Canvas was used to outline “next practice” recommendations from six international design support programmes running in Brazil, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and Wales. The resulting DOs and DON’Ts to programme development, delivery and evaluation were then applied to creating two draft programme recommendations for Estonia.

The document was launched at the Policy, Innovation & Design conference in Brussels, Belgium and is available for download.
